    Chris Higgins

    Defender

Highly regarded centre-back who made his name at Clyde where he was part of the famous side that shocked Celtic in the Scottish Cup in 2006. After four seasons as a near ever present for the Bully Wee, Chris moved to Dunfermline Athletic and picked up a First Division winners medal but was not retained for the Pars’ SPL campaign, instead making the move to Queen of the South in 2011. After relegation under Gus MacPherson in his first season at Palmerston, Chris was appointed club captain the following season and led the Doonhamers to a Second Division and Challenge Cup double. Overall he made over 200 appearances in six seasons at the Dumfries club before departing at the end of last season.

    Andy Geggan

    Defender

Another player with captaincy experience having worn the armband for three seasons at former club Dunfermline Athletic. Andy returned to Somerset Park in the summer, signing a two-year deal. His pervious spell at Ayr – during which the Honest Men reached the League Cup semi-final but were unable to avoid relegation from the second-tier – was sandwiched between spells at first club Dumbarton and Dunfermline, where he captained the side that beat United to the League 1 title in 2016. A tough tackling midfielder, Andy has recently been repurposed as a right-back and is equally comfortable in either position. He also poses a significant thread at set-pieces as demonstrated by his winning goal in the Ayrshire Derby at the start of the season.

    Michael Moffat

    Forward/Striker

Prolific striker and fans favourite who, like Andy Geggan, made the switch from Dunfermline back to Somerset Park and his hometown club this summer. ‘The Moff’ was a late starter in the senior game, stepping up from Junior side Girvan in January 2011 at the age of 25 but instantly showed his goal-scoring prowess,  scoring 11 goals in his first five months at Somerset Park, including a famous winner at Brechin which clinched promotion via the play-offs.  Scored 68 goals in three-and-a-half seasons at Somerset Park before moving to Dunfermline Athletic, where he picked up league winners medal in his second season.

    Robbie Crawford

    Midfielder

Hugely talented midfielder who joined the Ayr United Football Academy at the age 15 and has gone on to make over 150 first team appearances. Hailing from Kilwinning, Rab made his breakthrough into the first team under Mark Roberts following the club’s relegation from the First Division in 2012 and has been a regular ever since. His incredible work-rate and close control has seen him increasingly become a goal threat.  Turned down a number of offers from clubs at a higher level to extend his stay at the club in the summer.

    Craig Moore

    Forward/Striker

Robust forward with a powerful shot, ‘Moorey’ joined United on a permanent one year contract in the summer after two spells on loan at Somerset Park from Motherwell.  Craig made his ‘Well debut in August 2013 in a Europa League match and scored with his very first touch on his league debut against Hearts as a substitute that October. Craig spent the 2015/16 season on loan at United, scoring 14 goals in 30 appearances as the Honest Men clinched promotion to the Championship. His return last season was unfortunately hampered when a freak collision with St. Mirren’s Andy Webster led to a length spell on the sidelines. Now fully recovered, Craig is looking to repay the faith shown in him by manager Ian McCall.

Another Academy graduate with over 150 first team appearances to his name, Alan burst onto the scene when he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer in July 2013, netting the winning goal on his debut against Queen’s Park at Hampden Park aged 16 years 321 days. He has continued to show an eye for goal, netting nine times last season to take his tally for the Honest Men to 32. A local lad from Prestwick and the younger brother of Celtic winger James, Alan appeared for the Scotland U21s in a friendly against Slovakia last season.

Direct and pacy attacking midfielder who normally operates on the right-hand side, Declan started his career with hometown side Greenock Morton, making his debut in April 2013 but rejected the offer of a full-time contract with the club to join Partick Thistle later that year. Made 23 appearances during three-and-a-half years at the Firhill club before leaving in January 2017, signing a short-term deal with Ayr that was extended in the summer.

    Craig McGuffie

    Attacking Midfielder

The latest player to step up from the Ayr United Football Academy to become a first team regular, the left-sided midfielder made a big impact on Ian McCall last season and the manager has high hopes for the Troon youngster. Spells on loan with top Junior side Glenafton in 2015 and 2016 have added steel to his trickery and technique and his stunning long-range half-volley against Hibernian was voted Goal of the Competition in last season’s Scottish Cup.

    Jamie Adams

    Midfielder

Enjoying something of a renaissance under Ian McCall, the robust midfielder is in his third season at Somerset Park after initially signing a six-month deal in July 2015. Starting his career at Kilmarnock, Jamie was forced to endure two years out of the game due to serious injury following his departure from St. Johnstone in 2012 but returned to action in 2014 with South of Scotland League side Wigtown & Bladnoch, close to the family farm near Stranraer, catching the attention of McCall, who had previously signed Jamie on loan from Killie while at Partick Thistle and Queen of the South. A hugely important member of the squad, Jamie is increasingly becoming a cult figure amongst United supporters for his no-nonsense approach to the game.
