The Ayr United Reserves were in action on Tuesday night when they welcomed East Stirlingshire Reserves to Townhead park for their SPFL Reserve League 2 fixture.
For the first 15 mins of the game both teams moved the ball about well but neither created any chances.
The first yellow card of the game was shown 22 mins after East Stirlingshire’s Sweeney was booked for tripping an Ayr player.
1 min later Ayr were awarded a penalty after Trialist brought his man down off the ball. Murphy stepped up and converted the penalty.
6 mins later East Stirlingshire equalised after Rodger started at the half way line and got past a coupe of Ayr players. He took a shot which went past Hare-Reid and into the top right corner of the net.
In the 34 min Ayr had the chance to take the lead again but they were denied by a great save from I Ure.
3 mins later Ayr took the lead for the second time in the game after McKenzie crosses the ball into the box which was met by Hewitt at the penalty spot and he fired his shot past I Ure.
5 mins before half time goal scorer Rodgers was shown a yellow card for something he said to referee Calum Scott.
At half time East Stirlingshire made a substitution when Shirra replaced Millar.
53 mins into the game and Ayr gained another lead after Ecrepont played a cross into the box which was tapped into the net by McKenzie.
18 mins later Ayr were awarded their second penalty of the game after keeper I Ure fouled McKenzie in the box. Murphy stepped up again and converted the penalty.
2 mins later McKenzie got past the East Stirlingshire defence but his shot crashed off the post.
In the 75 min both teams made substitutions when Ayr’s Smith replaced Skeoch and East Stirlingshire’s D Ure replaced Trialist No 5. Ayr made another substitution 6 mins later when Goma replaced Trialist No 10. They then made a double substitution in the 85 min when Richardson and Heaney replaced Trialist No 2 and Love.
Ayr had one last chance in the 90 min when Heaney took a shot from the edge of the box which went just over the bar.
