Disabled Supporters Policy
Ayr United FC have a Club policy in relation to accommodating, as far as is reasonably possible, the needs of disabled supporters in recognition of the Club’s obligations under the Equality Act 2010 to tackle the issue of physical features that act as a barrier to disabled people who want to access the Stadium.
In this respect, please note the following:
Ayr United has adequate facilities for disabled persons with approximately 160 sq. metres of terracing for the sole use of disabled persons and their carers. Twenty-four spaces are allocated for wheelchair users and their carers. This area is flat and is mostly covered. There is a designated entrance and exit for disabled persons with a wide gate to give easy access to disabled persons in their wheelchairs. This gate is permanently manned throughout the game by designated stewards. There are disabled toilets for both male and female. The Club employs both male and female stewards solely for assisting disabled persons and their carers. The Club grant free admission to any wheelchair user disabled persons and their accompanying carer.
The disabled person’s enclosure is reserved for use by parties who are disabled and is primarily utilised by disabled supporters who are wheelchair users. If a disabled person who is not wheelchair user is unable to gain access to the seating area in the main stand or other suitable viewing area, the Club will consider a specific request to allow that disabled person access to the disabled enclosure provided an arrangement is made with the Ayr United FC Administration office not later than 24 hours in advance of the particular match to be viewed.
For all disabled supporters, the Club operates a policy whereby if at least 24 hours advance notice is given to the Club’s Administration Office, the name of the disabled person and their companion/carer will be taken and arrangements will be made for access to and exit from the main stand by the main door area (other than turnstile access). The age and internal configuration of the main stand is such that access to the main stand area can only be gained via an internal stairway although the low level of supporter/pedestrian traffic within the internal area of the main stand allows the disabled spectator time to negotiate the stairway without disturbance or interruption from other parties.
Ayr United FC has six designated disabled car parking spaces available for disabled spectators. These are available on a first come first served basis. The car park is ordinarily full approximately 30 minutes prior to kick off and, on occasions that a large crowd is anticipated, the Police Match Commander will usually direct in advance that the car park will be closed anything between 45 minutes to 1 hour in advance of kick off.
Ayr United FC, with advance notice will provide commentary for blind and visually impaired supporters. There are reserved seating for four persons who are blind or visually impaired. Headphones can be provided. There is room for guide dogs in this area.
